Cunical Information
Nitroglycerin Injection relaxes smooth muscles, including vascular muscles and reduces systolic blood pressure. NG-CARE is used as a short acting vasodilator in the prophylaxis and treatment of angina of effort.\\\' NG-CARE is also used for the relief of Renal and Gall Bladder colic
Mode of Action
Aqueous Nitroglycerin Injection exerts its antianginal effect mainly by reducing the myocardial oxygen demand by means of peripheral vasodilation, which causes decreased venous return, thereby permitting a reduction in left ventricular volume and energy expenditure.
Dosage and Mode of Administration
NG-CARE is given for administration by I.V Infusion by preparing a 1% solution, which is mixed in a 250 ml bottle of 5 % Dextrose solution. The rate of Administration varied from 1.4 to 2.0 Microgm per Kg per min ,1.5-2.1 Micro gram per Kg per min in pulmonary hypertension and 1.7-2.3 Microgram per Kg per Minute in Ventricular failure. The time of onset of Action varies from 4 to 7 minutes.
Contraindications and Precautions
Side Effects
Nitroglycerine may cause Dizziness, Tachycardia and a throbbing headache. Heavy doses may also cause Vomiting, restlessness, hypotension, flushing of the face, impairment of the respiration, bradycardia and psychosis.
