Technical textiles are taking a fast leap towards progressing market of global textiles. India is a progressive producer, exporters of the technical textile and got immense potential to meet the market progress. Unwoven textile fabric has normal 70% of the applications. Following are the defined application areas:-
a) Textile fabrics in automobiles:-
Automotive textiles applications are mainly limited to cord fabric and seat belts, and remaining is used for airbags, interiors, helmets, body covers etc.
Normal fiber used in the automotive industry is polyester, nylon 6.0, nylon 6.6 and viscose.
B) Technical textile in medical applications:-
Normally non woven is the preferred for the medical application being cost effective. Primary conditions for the medical application is that the fiber need to be non-toxic, on-allergic, non-carcinogenic and should not have any property change when put for sterilization. Primarily used fabric includes Viscose, for its hygienic and absorbent property.
Main applications of the technical textile in medical include Sanitary napkins, Health care and Hygienic products, surgical dressings, and sutures, diapers and orthopedic implants.
Sutures again further categorized to biodegradable and non-biodegradable, Collagen, polylactide and polyglycolide are used as biodegradable, while nylon 6.o polyester and polypropylene are non-biodegradable.
C) Technical textile in protective applications:-
Usual application of the textile fabric is in bulletproof and remaining in the apparels used while rendering fire extinguishing service.
Important aspect desired is that fibers used for such applications needs to have high strength, fibers needs to have high resistance against high temperature, poor thermal and electrical conductivity, strong resistance against heat, water, UV radiations and chemicals.
D) Technical textile in civil engineering:-
Used by engineers doing construction, environment engineering jobs.
E) Technical textile in packing and luggage applications:-
Maximum application of the technical textile comes under packaging applications. India got adequate production to support global demand.
F) Technical textile in agriculture applications:-
Nets used to save plants and crops, windshields, sunscreens, etc.
G) Technical textile in industrial and sports related applications
Products like conveyor belts, battery separators, filters etc. are typical examples for Technical textile industrial applications.
Products for e.g. footwear, sleeping bags, ballooning fabrics and parachute fabrics are the typical examples of the applications type.
