Metformin Tablet
Metformin Tablet
Metformin (met-FOR-min) is used in the treating of a type of diabetes mellitus (sugar diabetes) called type 2 diabetes. During this type of diabetes, insulin produced by the pancreas, does not get sugar into the cells of the body, thus the body does not function properly. Using metformin alone, or along with a type of oral anti diabetic medicine called a sulfonylurea, or with insulin will definitely assist you in lowering down the sugar level when it is too high. Moreover, it will also help you in restoring the way you use food to make energy. Many people can control type 2 diabetes, with diet alone or with diet and exercise. Following a specifically planned diet along with exercising will always be important when you have diabetes, even when you are taking medicines. To function properly, the amount of metformin you take must be in accordance against the amount and type of food you eat and the energy you burn while exercising. At some point of time, there is a possibility that this medicine may stop working and your blood glucose will increase. If this happens, instead of taking more of this medicine, consult your doctor, as they may prescribe some other anti-diabetic medicine to you. If even that one does not lower the blood glucose level, then the doctor may have to opt for insulin injections, in order to create the right balance. Metformin does not help patients that are insulin-dependent or have type 1 diabetes, because they can not produce insulin from their pancreas gland. Their blood glucose is best controlled by insulin injections.
