Cover Fluxes
Cover Fluxes
Aluminium and its alloys are very susceptible to oxidise during melting in open atmosphere. The oxides are of the same density as of aluminium and its alloys and are not readily separable and remain suspended in the melt and cause unsoundness in the casting. Thus, it is essential to remove these suspended oxides to get sound castings.
Our “COVER FLUXES” when come in contact of these oxides in the melt, dissolve them and make them float on the surface of the molten metal bath from where they can be removed easily and the metal attains brief silvery shine.
We have a wide range of cover fluxes to suit different alloys and methods of melting and casting.
(B/NF/C):
Used for general purpose
Provides cover against oxidation of molten metal.
Dissolve aluminium as well as other metallic oxides.
(B/NF/C-1):
Refining and drossing flux.
Useful for Al-Si alloys having low melting point (temp 640C to 680C).
Used in pressure die casting.
(B/NF/C-2):
Flux for drossing generating very less smoke.
Suitable for bogie treatment e.g crucible or bale out furnaces.
(B/NF/C-3):
Covering and refining flux used for melting turnings and scrap aluminium in any furnace. · Also when holding of melting is unavoidable after treatment.
It sprinkled in about 5mm thick layer covering the surface of molten metal avoids oxidation and minimies hydrogen gas pick up and temperature losses.
(B/NF/C-4):
Refining flux with exothermic reaction.
Helps in maintaining the temperature.
(B/NF/C-5):
Unique cover flux having degassing effect as well.
After plunging flux to the bottom of the melt and wait till oxides and dross rise to surface
(B/NF/C-6):
Refining flux for Al-Mg alloy (upto 10% Mg)
Checks oxidation of magnesium effectively.
(B/NF/C-7):
Used for covering and drossing off.
In die casting process at 650C.
(B/NF/C-8):
Used for covering and drossing off.
For Al-Si alloys at 720C.
(B/NF/C-9):
Specially formulated for piston.
A sodium free flux which refines the grain without extra phosphorus consumption.
Used for Al-Si alloys which are uncleared with phosphorus.
Balaji Exothermic flux(B/NF/K-11):
Flux used for recovery of metal from dross.
Is also useful in removal of dross from channel of induction furnace.
Quantity required:
For good quality of ingots. 0.2% - 0.3% of metal.
For scrap and return etc. 0.3%– 0.4% of metal.
For turnings and oily scrap. More than 0.5% of metal.
Instructions for use
Required quantity of flux for drossing is sprinkled.
The slag is removed with perforated skimmer.
Now half of the cover refining flux is charged along with scrap in the molten metal. Heating and addition of scrap should be done in such a way that molten metal remains a paste until the crucible is full.
Heat the metal to the required temperature and add remaining half of the flux and rabble thoroughly.
Packing
Supplied in polythelene lined gunny bags.
